54-Year-Old Woman Arrested In Yobe For Trafficking Ammunition

A suspected gunrunner, Hamsatu Modu, has been arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Yobe State.​


The 54-year-old woman who hails from Morami, a village in Jakana, Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State, was nabbed on suspicion of trafficking ammunition from Buniyadi to Damaturu in Yobe State.

Her arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday by Dungus Abdulkarim, the spokesperson for the Yobe State Police Command.

The statement noted that Modu was arrested on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at approximately 6:30 PM, following the receipt of reliable intelligence at the ‘A’ Divisional Police Headquarters in Damaturu concerning the alleged gunrunner.

“The Command has successfully apprehended Hamsatu Modu, 54, of Morami Village, Jakana Konduga LGA, Borno State, for trafficking ammunition from Buni Yadi to Damaturu.

“On October 20, 2024, at about 1830 hours, ‘A’ Divisional Police Headquarters, Damaturu, received credible intelligence regarding a suspected gunrunner en route to Damaturu. Swift action led to the interception of a Golf 3 saloon car, and a thorough search revealed 350 rounds of live 7.62×39 MM ammunition concealed in the suspect’s luggage,”
the police statement reads.

The police command noted that the suspect is currently being interrogated as investigators strive to uncover the criminal network and the underlying motives associated with the trafficking activities.

In addition, Garba Ahmed, the Commissioner of Police for Katsina State, has reiterated the Command’s dedication to fighting crime and has called upon community members to continue their collaboration with security agencies.

He encouraged the public to maintain vigilance and to report any suspicious activities, individuals, or items to the nearest police station or security establishment.
