Super Eagles: Lookman Named Atalanta Player Of The Month

Super Eagles of Nigeria winger, Ademola Lookman, who is contracted to Atalanta, has reflected on their recent match against Arsenal, describing it as a tactical battle akin to a game of chess.

Ademola Lookman, who was arguably the hottest striker on the pitch, couldn’t break the defence of the Premier League side as the two teams played to a goalless draw in their first Champions League game of the season on Thursday.

Atalanta had a golden opportunity to take the lead in the second half, but Mateo Retegui’s penalty was saved by Arsenal’s goalkeeper, David Raya.

After the game, Ademola Lookman said: “We had a plan and we were unfortunate not to score. We will take the positives out of it and move.

“It was kind of a chess match.

“Obviously, they are one of the top teams and we matched them tonight.

“We’ll take the draw. Onto the next.”

Meanwhile, Atalanta’s manager, Gian Piero Gasperini, commended Ademola Lookman for his solid defensive contribution during their 0-0 draw with Arsenal.

Gasperini acknowledged that Atalanta faced a resilient Arsenal defence, with Retegui’s missed penalty being a significant moment in the match.

The coach emphasized his team’s defensive efforts, particularly praising Ademola Lookman, De Ketelaere, and Retegui for their admirable defensive work.

He stated, “Our team spirit is to be admired. The defensive contributions from Lookman, De Ketelaere, and Retegui were exceptional. When our attackers work tirelessly to support the defense, we can be more aggressive in our attacking play.”
